Amazon
Overview
The Amazon is a massive area covering across eight countries. The Amazon has one known species on earth, it contains half of the planet’s tropical rain forest and the Amazon River stretches 6598km. the amount of carbon is massive, deforestation could have catastrophic effect on the world’s climate.
Species
There are millions of species in the Amazon most of them have not been discovered yet. The Amazon contains 40,000 plant species, 3,000 freshwater fish species and more than 370 types of retiles. The WWF is working with local tribes and communities, organizations and governments to make sure that degradation of the rivers and deforestation are abolished. Some of the more seriously endangered animals are the Macaw, Jaguar, Poison Dart Frog, Amazon River Dolphin, Black Spider Monkey and the Sloth. There are more than 30 million people living in the Amazon.
Threats
The first major threat to the Amazon is the infrastructure being built for national development. But these projects have been poorly planned and have had very negative impacts on the Amazon like building roads to places that have never been accessed before for illegal logging. Hydropower is being used by Brazil’s growing population. The building of the dams disrupt the river connectivity, block the range of many marine species, the WWF are trying to identify the part of the rivers that have the highest conservation value and avoid them. The weak law enforcement on the mining industry make it easy for the mining to destroy nature and wildlife. WWF work to decrease the damage that gold mining, oil exploration, illegal logging and over fishing.
What is WWF Doing?
The WWF are working with cattle industry, they provide scientific support to Brazil to help them find suitable places for them to build their dams, helps to protect the forest from logging and make sure big infrastructure projects have a minimal effect on the amazon.

Poison Dart Frog
There are more than 100 species of poison dart frog and unlike most frogs that try and blend in with their surroundings the dart frogs has brightly coloured skin to warn of larger animals. The dart frog’s skin contains a poison that could seriously injure or kill predators. The main threats to the species are habitat loss and climate change.
